Gold prices for global trading have seen a significant decline ahead of the U.S. inflation data announcement today. On Wednesday (August 9, 2023), gold closed at $1,914.59 per troy ounce.
This marks a decrease of 0.53%, representing the lowest closing level since July 6 of this year, or over a month ago.
This decline has resulted in gold prices weakening for three consecutive days, with a total drop of 1.39% over that period.

The continuous weakening of gold prices is concerning, as there is a possibility that prices could fall below the $1,900 level, given that they are currently near that lower boundary, specifically below $1,900 per troy ounce.
However, this morning, gold prices began to show signs of recovery. On Thursday (August 10, 2023), at 06:15 WIB, spot gold prices strengthened to $1,916.13, an increase of 0.08%.
Gold prices have fallen amid market uncertainty while waiting for the announcement of U.S. inflation data for July today, or Thursday evening in Indonesia. Market participants estimate that the inflation rate will reach 0.2% (month-on-month/mom) and 3.3% (year-on-year/yoy) for July.
In other words, the annual inflation rate is predicted to be higher. This situation raises concerns in the market, as an increase in inflation could prompt the U.S. central bank, the Federal Reserve (The Fed), to maintain a tighter (hawkish) policy stance.
