The Economic Calendar includes recurring economic reports and data released by government agencies and other research institutions, meetings and press releases regarding central bank operations and policies, and government funding activities and announcements.

Some examples of events that occur on specific days of the week, month, or quarter are employment and inflation reports, government funding activity and announcements, and central bank meetings. Other calendar items are more dependent on current events or larger cyclical conditions.

These might include hearings on the appointment of a new central bank chairman, central banker speaking engagements, and meetings of heads of state. Any scheduled event that could affect economic conditions or market activity can be considered part of the economic calendar.

How to Read the Economic Calendar

The default Economic Calendar settings on the app that provides this information include all major global economic events, grouped by major economic events, scheduled for today, for the world’s largest developed and emerging market economies.

Tabs near the top of the table allow users to filter for other time frames, including results from the previous day as well as broader outlooks for the current and upcoming weeks. For greater specificity, use the calendar buttons to adjust the filtering by date.

Filter buttons in the right corner above the table allow users to select only the events they want to see in the Economic Calendar, whether by specific release, country, category or level of importance to the market. To dig deeper into a particular Economic Calendar event, click on the event name within the calendar. The link will take users to a page dedicated to that event.

Selecting an Event

This includes the latest release information, a detailed description or definition of the event itself and its significance to the market. In many cases, there is also a customizable graph or chart to provide an aggregate view of previous releases. This can be customized to provide a shorter or longer term overview.
